A Message from the Sellers - The O'Haras
Dear Prospective Buyer,
We have lived in this wonderful home for 10 years and raised our five children, lived with two grandparents and loved two dogs in this safe, family-oriented neighborhood. We moved here from Columbus, Ohio and were welcomed into this great neighborhood and community with open arms. Our neighbor’s older children babysat our kids when they were small and helped them practice throwing a baseball. Our children know all of our neighbors and especially their dogs as we have had a few come into our house unannounced!
Jodi Lane is a kid’s haven and our house in particular has become the hub. Our all-season room has seen many a gathering from birthday parties, to sleepovers and more. When we bought this house, we figured the room would be a place where we could relax and enjoy some quiet time. Boy, we were wrong! Our all-season room is a great room especially during the winter months when the kids are inside with inclement weather. When our kids were little they even rode tricycles in there!
We have a large extended family and host most holidays. We have hosted parties for 100 people here and it never felt crowded. The kitchen is a perfect working space for cooking and we spend a lot of time in the adjacent dining area. We have cooked dinner for 40 family members for Thanksgiving and have had 20 people spend a week for Christmas. While our home is large and always full, we also find it to be very cozy. There are many quiet areas to steal an hour or two with a good book, do homework or just to sit back and relax.
“The Mountain” as our kids call it, is a quiet, dedicated green space behind the house where neighborhood kids gather for a quick game of tag or a Nerf gun war or our dogs can get their exercise. It is acres of natural untouched space which we have had the great joy of having right in our back yard. We find it to be a wonderful extension of our backyard. Across the street, is the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge where the kids sometimes go to fish and walk along the trails.
Every spring, the kids plant their favorite vegetables in the garden. Two years ago, they were very big on planting the“alien vegetable”, Kohlrabi, because the name sounded cool. Looked great, but none of them would eat it! Each summer, on the Fourth of July, our kids sit in their bedrooms and watch the seven different fireworks displays visible over the Great Swamp. In the fall, during their birthdays, 30-foot Bounce Houses would litter our lawn and the sound of children screaming could be heard up and down the street. When winter came around and the first snow fell, our kids would all hop on their sleds and whoosh down the hill and end up across the cul-de-sac.
Gillette is a wonderful town to raise a family in. It has so much to offer from the thriving community and downtown to the superior school system. Long Hill has one of the best robotics programs in the world. Our oldest son won the state championship and his team finished 28th in the world last year. Our oldest daughter plays goalie for the U.S. Futures field hockey team and plays on one of the best club teams in New Jersey. Our triplets have many friends and do Girl Scouts and karate.
We are sad to go because of the special place this home has been for us and the wonderful memories we made here and will always cherish. We hope that you enjoy this home, neighborhood and the wonderful town of Gillette as much as we have.
